How to Use Vélib’ in Paris

Step 1 – Get Access

1. Download the Vélib’ Métropole app (App Store / Google Play).
   • Language available in English.
   • Register with email + phone.
2. Choose a pass:
   • V-Découverte 1-Day Pass (€5) → includes 5 rides up to 30 min each.
   • If you choose an electric (blue) bike, each 30-min segment costs an extra €1.
3. Add your credit/debit card (contactless preferred).

Step 2 – Find a Bike

• Open app → map shows available stations and # of bikes.
• Walk to nearest dock.
• Stations on your route:
  • Rue de l’Oratoire (near Notre Dame).
  • Rue de Rivoli / Tuileries (near Louvre).
  • Colisée – Champs-Élysées.
  • Abbesses / Anvers (base of Montmartre).
  • Bir-Hakeim / Champ de Mars (near Eiffel Tower).

Step 3 – Unlock a Bike

• In app: tap “Unlock a Vélib.”
• Enter station code or scan QR code on bike dock.
• Dock light turns green → pull bike out.

Step 4 – Ride Safely

• Stay in bike lanes (Paris has 1,000+ km).
• Wear a helmet (bring your own — not provided).
• Max speed assist: 25 km/h (for electric bikes).
• Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Step 5 – Return the Bike

• Push bike firmly into dock until light turns green.
• Always double-check in the app → it will confirm “bike returned.”
• If dock is full: app will direct you to nearest available dock.

Morning Start (~09:30)

• Metro Line 8 from Maisons-Alfort → Bastille / Hôtel de Ville.
• Pickup at Rue de l’Oratoire (Notre Dame area).

Segment 1: Ride along Seine to Louvre / Tuileries → dock at Rue de Rivoli.
Segment 2: Ride through Place de la Concorde → Champs-Élysées → dock at Colisée station.
Segment 3: Ride north to Montmartre (Abbesses/Anvers) → park & walk up Sacré-Cœur.
Segment 4 (Evening): Ride downhill toward Seine → dock at Bir-Hakeim / Champ de Mars near Eiffel Tower.
End: Watch sunset, dinner nearby, then Metro Line 8 back to Maisons-Alfort.

🗺️ Suggested Day 2 Route by E-Bike

Morning

• Start from Maisons-Alfort → take metro Line 8 into Paris (20–25 min).
• Pick up a Vélib near Place de la Bastille or Hôtel de Ville.

Route:

1. Île de la Cité / Notre Dame – park & stroll around.
2. Cycle along the Seine quays (bike lanes!) → Louvre courtyard & Tuileries Garden.
3. Continue to Place de la Concorde → Champs-Élysées (bike lane along avenue).

Lunch: Around Champs-Élysées or Opéra Garnier area.

Afternoon
4. Ride north to Montmartre (Sacré-Cœur) – lock bike at the bottom, then walk up (steep hill).
5. Explore Place du Tertre, Montmartre cafés.

Evening
6. Ride back toward the river for sunset near Eiffel Tower.
7. Drop bike at a station near Bir-Hakeim or Champ de Mars.
8. Dinner nearby or metro back to Maisons-Alfort.
